Refinery production · four weeks1.870 million b/d

Net production · not a complete supply balance

Kerosene-type jet fuel stocks, domestic product supplied and refinery net production. Excludes aviation gasoline and naphtha-type jet fuel. Gulf Coast spot prices do not represent delivered airline fuel costs. Production minus domestic product supplied excludes trade and adjustments; it is not the implied inventory change.

Crack: Same-week Gulf Coast spot USD/gallon × 42 − Brent USD/barrel. Gross product spread before operating costs; not company earnings.

Seasonal: Same ISO week and weekday in exactly five preceding ISO years. Five valid observations required; otherwise null. Week 53 is never replaced by week 1.

Flows: Arithmetic mean of exactly four consecutive weekly rates, converted from thousand to million barrels/day. Domestic product supplied is an implied consumption proxy, not end-user sales.

Cover: Stocks / four-week domestic product supplied. Exports excluded; not a depletion forecast or exact physical balance.

Missing: No interpolation, zero substitution or forward fill. Stocks and prices can have different latest dates.

About this series

Read the spread, then check the physical buffer.

Stocks and flows cover kerosene-type jet fuel. The price is Gulf Coast kerosene-type jet fuel; aviation gasoline is excluded.

The crack is a gross wholesale spread. National stocks and domestic flows provide separate context; geography, trade and costs prevent it from being a company earnings estimate.

Questions, answered from the method

US Jet Fuel Market questions

Product definitions, source dates, calculations and limits.

What does this Jet Fuel dashboard measure?

Stocks and flows cover kerosene-type jet fuel. The price is Gulf Coast kerosene-type jet fuel; aviation gasoline is excluded. The page separates the wholesale price spread, the national stock buffer and four-week domestic flows.

Which price benchmark is used?

EIA publishes a weekly average of US Gulf Coast spot prices in dollars per gallon. Jet Fuel is converted to dollars per barrel and compared with the same-week Europe Brent spot average.

Is the crack spread a refinery profit margin?

It is a gross one-product price spread before energy, labour, transport, compliance, maintenance and other costs. It does not include the other products a refinery sells or its actual crude slate.

Are these retail or futures prices?

No. Gulf Coast spot jet fuel is a wholesale benchmark. Airline fuel bills also reflect transport, airport charges, contracts and hedging.

What does product supplied mean?

EIA product supplied is an implied domestic consumption measure derived from supply and disposition. It is an estimate and may be revised; it is not a survey of every final sale.

How is the crack spread calculated?

Multiply the weekly product spot price in USD/gallon by 42 gallons per barrel, then subtract the Brent spot price in USD/barrel for that exact week. Missing price pairs produce gaps.

How are seasonal stocks calculated?

Each observation is compared with the same ISO week and weekday in the five preceding ISO years. The mean, minimum and maximum require five valid values. ISO week 53 is not replaced with another week.

What does the shaded range mean?

It is the minimum to maximum stock level among those five historical observations. It is a descriptive historical range, not a confidence interval or a forecast.

Why use a four-week demand average?

Weekly product supplied can be noisy. The chart and inventory cover use the arithmetic mean of the current week and the three immediately preceding weeks. If any week is missing, the mean is unavailable.

How is jet fuel inventory cover calculated?

National stocks in million barrels are divided by four-week domestic product supplied in million barrels per day. Exports are excluded. Stocks and flows cover kerosene-type jet fuel. The price is Gulf Coast kerosene-type jet fuel; aviation gasoline is excluded. The ratio is a rough buffer measure, not a countdown.

Where do the numbers come from?

U.S. Energy Information Administration API v2 weekly petroleum series. The source ledger on this page lists every series identifier and its latest available observation.

How often does this page update?

The product payload refreshes with the existing weekly StorageCurve updater. EIA publishes weekly petroleum estimates and spot-price averages on separate release schedules, so the latest price and stock dates can differ.

Is the collection time the publication date?

No. Collection time records when StorageCurve retrieved the data. The API series payload does not supply a verified publication timestamp here, so none is invented. Check the linked EIA release pages.

What happens when a source fails?

All required series must be retrieved before the new payload is published atomically. A failed update preserves the last successful file and its original dates. A visible age notice identifies observations older than 14 calendar days.

Are missing weeks filled?

No. Missing stock weeks are explicit gaps, unmatched spot prices remain unavailable and four-week rates require consecutive observations. No value is interpolated, replaced by zero or carried forward.

What suggests a tighter market?

A wider product crack together with stocks below their seasonal reference may indicate stronger product pricing and a thinner buffer. Check demand, production and dates together; no single reading predicts price direction.

Does production minus demand equal the stock change?

No. Imports, exports, adjustments and differences in product coverage also matter. The flow chart deliberately does not label the gap as a physical surplus or deficit.

Why can jet fuel seasonality change?

Travel patterns, international flights, refinery yields and trade can change the seasonal stock pattern. Pandemic years remain in the published rolling benchmark while they fall inside the prior-five-year window.

Can this estimate PBF Energy earnings?

These market series can inform a later company model, but cannot estimate earnings on their own. That requires regional realized margins, throughput, product yields, outages, operating costs, compliance costs, financing, taxes and share count.

What should I compare next?

Compare the other refined-product market, diesel tightness and US crude inventories. Products can diverge because of specifications, trade, geography and refinery configuration; do not add their cracks as if each refinery produced one barrel of every product.
