Days of supply = national stocks ÷ four-week average domestic product supplied. Exports are excluded; this is a ratio, not a countdown to running out.
Five-year minimum–maximum and mean. Historical ranges are not confidence intervals.
The observations remain available in the tables below.

About this series
A stock level shows the inventory buffer. Draws and builds show its movement. Compare each with its own seasonal history and check the observation date before interpreting it.
Compare across the balance
A single series rarely settles a question. Gas and crude respond to different drivers, and a national total can disagree with the hub that prices the contract.

The EIA series measures total distillate fuel oil stocks, including diesel and heating oil. It is broader than road diesel alone and is not a count of retail filling-station supplies.
Stock levels and weekly changes are in million barrels. EIA reports these series in thousand barrels, which are divided by 1,000.
The five Petroleum Administration for Defense Districts are the East Coast, Midwest, Gulf Coast, Rocky Mountain and West Coast. The page compares each regional stock series on the US headline week.
US total distillate stocks are divided by the average domestic distillate product supplied in the latest four consecutive weeks. Million barrels divided by million barrels per day gives days.
No. It is a stock-to-demand ratio assuming the recent demand rate. Production and trade continue; exports are excluded from this domestic-demand denominator.
The observations are weekly EIA estimates. The date shown is the stock observation week-ending date, not the website retrieval date; releases can be delayed by holidays.
Each observation is matched to the same ISO week and weekday in the five preceding ISO years. A week 53 that does not exist in a prior year is not replaced by week 1.
The calculation requires stock data and four consecutive weekly domestic product-supplied values with a positive average. A gap is not filled with the preceding week.
No. National domestic product supplied is not a valid regional demand denominator. Regional comparisons show stock levels and weekly changes only.
No. PADD stocks are components of the national total. Adding them to it would double-count inventories; small differences can arise from rounding or revisions.
It spans the minimum and maximum stock levels in the same period of the five preceding years. It is a historical reference, not a forecast or confidence interval.
The arithmetic mean uses exactly five valid same-period stock observations. If any required observation is missing, the mean and range remain unavailable.
A draw is a negative change from the immediately preceding reporting period. A build is a positive change. A missing preceding period makes the change unavailable.
Yes. The stock level describes the remaining buffer; the change describes its recent movement. A draw inside its historical range can still leave a small buffer.
No. Demand patterns, refinery operations and storage arrangements change. Exceptional historical years remain in the reference and may widen its range.
No. Stocks are one physical indicator. Demand, refinery output, imports, exports, freight and expectations also affect prices.
The chart uses the selected region’s observations. The comparison table aligns values to the national or EU headline period and separately identifies each region’s latest valid date.
No. Missing data remain unavailable and charts do not bridge gaps. A published zero is different from an absent observation.
The downloadable normalized inventory file includes histories, source identifiers, seasonal inputs, flags and retrieval metadata. Recent observations are also available in the page table.
Compare the other regional inventory page, then inspect the US Diesel Tightness Tracker or the global supply-and-demand page for additional physical and price context.
